DREAM CAMPAIGN SUPPORTS 11 RESEARCH FUNDING PRIORITIES

Systems Biology Approaches to Reduce Myocardial Injury ($150,000)

In this animal study, we plan to use molecular imaging techniques such as “live microscopy” and gene transfer techniques to develop new methods of protecting the heart during and after surgery. The systems biology approach is unique as it tries to understand how biological systems function by studying the relationships between various parts of a biological system (e.g. metabolic pathways and gene, protein, and cell elements). With this study, we hope to develop a greater understanding of the whole (rather than the isolated) system.
