DREAM CAMPAIGN SUPPORTS 11 RESEARCH FUNDING PRIORITIES
Bridge Funding for Long-Term Cognitive Outcomes Program ($200,000)
As defined above, NORG is committed to understanding and preventing neurological and cognitive injury after surgery. As part of this multidisciplinary program, we employ neuropsychological “testers” who evaluate our research patients both before and after surgery, often at the patients’ homes as some patients are unable to travel back to Duke. These testers are also responsible for maintaining long-term (5, 10, and 15 year) follow-up on all patients enrolled into our protocols. The decline in federal support has affected this group to the greatest degree. We seek to provide bridge funding to support two neuropsychological testers for the next three years. To lose the expertise, developed over many years, would be devastating to our efforts in understanding the long-term effects of perioperative injury.
