DREAM CAMPAIGN SUPPORTS 11 RESEARCH FUNDING PRIORITIES
Genomics of Pain ($100,000)
Chronic pain remains an important problem for a significant percentage (20-30%) of patients undergoing surgery. Therefore, it is imperative that we direct more resources to understand why some patients tolerate greater degrees of pain. In collaboration with investigators at UNC-Chapel Hill and by using sensitive and objective methods of evaluating pain, we plan to evaluate how genetic factors influence the development and treatment of acute and chronic pain.
