For more than 15 years, the division of Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at Duke has led the way in brain protection research spearheading significant advances in the care of patients undergoing cardiac surgery. At the heart of this extraordinary division are exceptional individuals who make up the Duke DREAM Team. Our team comprises a group of gifted residents, fellows, and talented faculty physicians and nurses, dedicated to providing quality patient care. These devoted, caring physician scientists are supported by an enthusiastic team of researchers who are committed to improving the overall health and quality of life of the people we serve. Our Duke DREAM Team, however, would be incomplete without our loyal patients who support us in our endeavors.

This Developing Research Excellence in Anesthesia Management (DREAM) prospectus is an overview of our research and goals. It highlights our past research and its contribution to improved healthcare, ongoing studies and their potential for improving outcomes, and research ideas for enhancing the lives of our patients. We hope that you will support and participate in our initiatives.

We are optimistic about the future of brain and organ protection research. As we move forward with our needs, our objectives, and our future, we are enthusiastic that your support can give us the power to dream and empower us in our quest for a better tomorrow.
