The Division of Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at Duke is now recognized as one of the top academic, clinical, and research centers in the nation. This reputation has been earned through extraordinary collaborative efforts between researchers and clinicians who are instrumental in translating laboratory and clinical research into the best possible care for patients undergoing heart and lung surgery.

As you will read in the Duke Developing Research Excellence in Anesthesia Management (DREAM) Campaign website, the Duke DREAM Team is advancing on all fronts of brain protection research while expanding into the field of kidney and heart protection. The outstanding efforts of this Division have been applauded both nationally and internationally.

Even as we celebrate these substantial accomplishments, we humbly recognize that a lot of ground is left to be covered. The goal of the Division is now to focus its energy in hitherto unexplored frontiers of brain protection research in order to further improve the care and quality of life of our patients.

The Duke DREAM Team’s aspirations for continued growth in the research arena, however, cannot be realized without your support. I hope that you will enjoy learning about the Duke DREAM Team, and that you will be as excited as I am about supporting the future of organ protection research at Duke.
